How do I turn Facebook fans in to users?

March 29, 2010 No Comments

Ok, so this morning I wake up and check my current Facebook Fan Page over at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Athletics-Track/340240362308 and I find out that I’ve hit the 200 fans mark, which in just about a month I think is pretty good going really.  I then go it up my actual users database for the website and somehow I’ve only got 59 users… fair enough, 59 users in little over two weeks is nothing to complain about, but I just can’t seem to understand why people will join a Facebook group, which does have a link to the site on it… it does say “SITE IS LIVE” on it, it does have several registration links on there via my posts, yet somehow, I’ve only got a 29% registration uptake from the site.

It’s  a little bit confusing to say the least.  Are people being put off by the Twitter username and password fields?  If so, maybe I need to put an * next to the mandatory fields, because the Twitter details aren’t mandatory… perhaps this is scaring people off?

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me hear them at nik.mesney@athletics-track.com as I am a bit confused as to how I can get people to sign up as fans, with the fan page clearly stating that you have to register on the site to make the most of it, and then them not registering!

Still, this is not a moan, far from it.  I want to thank everyone that has signed up so far and that is using the website, as it is my little baby and it seems to be working how I envisioned it so far, just on a small scale.    I’m really appreciative of all the clubs and contacts from places such as Welsh Athletics and Scottish Athletics who have got back to me following my introductory emails to them, and also the websites that have linked to me so far, some of which include Wrexham Athletic ClubLincoln Wellington Athletic Club,Havering and Mayesbrook Athletic Club and East Cheshire Harriers, to name but a few.

If anyone else is interested in a reciprocal link being set up, please feel free to email me and I will have no problem, as long as it is relevant to Athletics.
